Lock, Stock, and Tracking Dogs is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn from our expert tracking trainers, to diversify your own unique training you offer to your students.
This course is a multi-disciplinary tracking course, and is aimed at dog trainers working with pet, sport, and behavioural clients. The course offers an in depth practical and theoretical look at different types of tracking training, including puppy tracking, scent ID, sport and footstep tracking, plus tracking for behavioural training, and there are opportunities to specialise and spend more time on your preferred area.
Depending on which discipline you are training in, tracking utilises a dog’s natural ability to follow a scent trail left behind by a person or animal, or ground disturbance, which makes it a very versatile and rewarding activity for the majority of dogs. A tracking dog has to work in unison with their handler to follow a scent trail through different terrains, environments, and weather conditions. You can find out more about Tracking here. Tracking is a specialist area of dog training and requires instructors to have a strong knowledge of both the practical skills and application of them, alongside a thorough understanding of dog behaviour and scent theory. Scent and Track UK are passionate about introducing other professionals to the fantastic options available through this type of training.
Our trainers have a wealth of experience in teaching humans as well as dogs, and this course has multiple aspects, with your training provided through theory sessions, practical training days, as well as our online learning platform. You will need a dog to work as part of your practical training, and be prepared to spend time working on your training outside of the practical blocks and submitting videos and participating in online discussion groups and zoom sessions.
We welcome applicants for this course from any location, but all the practical training days are a mandatory part of this course, and will be held in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire through 2026.
18th – 20th March 2026
